Professional Lawn Treatment  tips

Lawn Weed Control

Introduction

Weed control is a seemingly intractable lawn maintenance procedure. In fact, most homeowners comfortably neglect this service, however, doing this is to their detriment. Your yard care is not complete if you’ve not dedicated yourself to grass mowing, lawn spraying, and other means of keeping your yard sanitary.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s look at some of the important things to note with lawns and weeds.

Identifying the Different Types of Weed in Your Lawn

The oldest and most simplified definition of weeds will suffice here, “any plant growing where it’s not wanted.” With weeds, there’s no general rule of thumb, you need to apply specific techniques to address the different types of weed. Part of lawn care is that you’re regularly inspecting the lawn for signs of an anomaly. What are the different types of weed you can encounter in the course of grass mowing?

1.Broadleaf Weed

The leaves of a broadleaf weed, as its name implies, are broad and flat and some of the common types are ground ivy, dandelion, clover, etc.

2.Grassy Weed

These have the appearance of a grass and the leaves are grown like grass blades. Quackgrass, crabgrass, and foxtail are perfect examples.

3.Grass-Like Weed

Although they also resemble grass, they are more triangular or hollow rather than flat. The wild garlic and wild onion come to mind.

Identifying the kind of grass is just the first step to weed control. Lawn maintenance transcends just knowing the weed, being able to eliminate these unwanted plants is the ultimate demonstration of consummate lawn care.

How can you control weeds in your lawn?

There are different lawn maintenance tricks you can learn. While some of these tips will work well for weeds in their inchoate stages, fully-grown weeds might prove more difficult to manage alone. They might even cause harm to you if the appropriate tools are not used.

Hand Weeding

Carry a bucket, put on a safety glove, go down on your knees, and begin to pull out those unruly plants. This strategy is more effective when it is directed at weeds which are just setting seed. You might consider a lawn service for this if you do not have the time.

Lawn Spraying

There are pre-emergent herbicides which you can use to combat the germination of weeds which appear in certain seasons (crabgrass, henbit, and annual bluegrass). Here’s an important hint, do not consider lawn spraying just before it rains- the rain will wash it off.

Grass Mowing

Employing a professional lawn service to help with grass mowing will help you eliminate weeds in your lawn more effectively. In doing this, consider mowing the grass at a higher level and this will not only allow your lawn maintenance prove more useful, it will help you suppress the further growth of weeds.

Lawn Maintenance to Prevent Weed Growth

Controlling weed growth is good, but preventing it is even better. No matter how beautiful your lawn is, if you do not prioritize lawn maintenance, you are in for serious yard care issues. Proper lawn care which comprises the regular feeding of the lawn is a step in the right direction.

Also, you might need to water your lawn with renewed intensity, allowing the roots to grow deeper. This will ensure that your lawn doesn’t suffer during periods of extreme heat. Also, the deeper the lawn’s roots, the more resistant it is to weeds.
